No need for vintage photo actions or a stylized set here: these are real folks and this is their real wedding! Now presenting to you: Sarry and Davy Jay Sparrow! This honky tonkin’, music-themed wedding took place at everyone’s favorite Bloomington pizza joint, Max’s Place. From Sarry’s rocking hair and makeup by Ash Vega to the country-western cakes by Sugar Daddy’s to their awesome DIY western backdrop, this wedding had Davy and Sarry’s stylish stamps all over it. Many friends helped to pull off the day including videographer (and fellow musician) Mark Allen and wedding planner (and bridesmaid) Mary Bauer. The ceremony was both sweet and hilarious thanks to the vaudeville comedy duo Rembrandt & McGillicutty who officiated. We can assuredly say that this marks the first wedding we’ve covered where an officiant was holding a whiskey bottle during the ceremony.
The fun kept coming when the wedding turned into a full-fledged concert. While Davy’s own group, Davy Jay Sparrow & His Well-Known Famous Drovers, was in attendance, they left the face-rocking duties to the following bands. First on the bill was (in their words) “the tightest and most lubricated honky tonk band on earth,” Leon Chance and The Long Shots, whose front man you might remember from this funny promo. Next, from Cincinnati, came The Tillers whose multi-instrument virtuosity and upbeat old-time music continued the party. (The Tillers also provided beautiful music for the ceremony). Finishing off the night were the The Vallures, a Bloomington-based group of ladies (and one lovely/lucky gentleman) whose Motown sounds were as coordinated as their outfits.
So, without further ado, here are some of our favorite pics from the day set to Davy’s music! Congrats Davy and Sarry!
